Jim N. Gianopulos
Jim Gianopulos has played a prominent role in the entertainment and media industry for over 40 years.
Until December of 2021 he served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Paramount Pictures. In this role, he oversaw all feature film production, marketing, and global distribution of film and television in all media. During Mr. Gianopulos tenure at Paramount, it saw its greatest successes in many years, with films such as Mission Impossible Fallout, A Quiet Place, Sonic The Hedgehog and Rocketman. He also oversaw the production of Top Gun Maverick, which is one of the biggest film successes of the year. In addition, he was responsible for the broad expansion of Paramount Television Studios, including the recently released series The Offer, Fatal Attraction, and others.
Prior to joining Paramount, Gianopulos served in a similar capacity as the Chairman and CEO of Twentieth Century Fox from 2000 to September 2016. During his tenure at Fox, the studio had its most profitable years ever, and in 2014, Twentieth Century Fox broke the all-time industry global box-office record, earning more than $5.5 billion. Among the many successes during Mr. Gianopulos’s stewardship were 2 of the biggest films of all time, Titanic and Avatar, as well as the Star Wars, Planet of the Apes, and X Men franchises, Deadpool, The Martian and many other critical and commercial successes.
Mr. Gianopulos has also been instrumental in the development of media technologies over his many years in the industry, having overseen the emergence of video and digital distribution platforms, the launching of ITunes and major streaming services, and many other major advances. He is regarded as an expert in the intersection of multi-media distribution and the creative process.
Gianopulos is a member of the Board of the USC School of Cinematic Arts where he also serves as an Adjunct Professor. He is involved in a number of civic and philanthropic activities, including serving as Chairman of the Motion Picture & Television Fund, and as a member of the Board of the X-Prize Foundation. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, which in 2013 bestowed Mr. Gianopulos with its highest honor, The Humanitarian Award.
Gianopulos attended the master’s program at the New York University School of Law, the Fordham School of Law (Juris Doctor, 1976) and Boston University (BA, 1973).
He resides in Los Angeles with his wife Ann and their three daughters.
